I use the term "Medicine Men" but the reader should be aware that this term could also include women (although most frauds are men). The term includes but is not limited to:
Pipe Carriers
Spiritual Advisors
Sweat Lodge Keepers
Healers
Shake Tent Shamans
AND
Also includes individuals who may have special spiritual abilities
such as:
Communicating with the dead
or
communicating with animal or other spirits
or
clairvoyance
This list could be longer but I think you get the point.
Most people believe in some kind of higher power and this belief could likely include a belief in some kind of spiritual realm. So, it is my intent to dedicate this web site to educate, inform and assist people with coming to a good understanding about what is considered genuine and what is considered frauds.
It is very possible that you could come in contact with a fraud and this could be very damaging to you and many others. You could be abused and misled for years. It is also very possible that you could meet a genuine spiritual teacher or a holy man and not know it. These possibilities do exsist.
This site has suggestions on what qualities to look for in spiritual teachers, medicine people, healers, prophets, etc... We often place our full trust (and sometimes our lives) in the hands of these spiritual teachers and healers and we hope that they will not abuse this sacred trust.
As with any profession there are those who would exploit anything including the sacred Native Spirituality for their own egocentric personal gain and enrichment. It is my hope that this site will help you in making informed decisions about who you may choose to entrust as a spiritual guide and healer.
